What move the needle when brewing coffee?
Share
If you have made it this far, you're probably already deep enough down the coffee rabbit hole to know about the million things you can buy to make better coffee, some cheap, some expensive.

But here's the truth: not all of them move the needle equally. In fact, you can make better coffee with a french press (stempelkande) than a La Marzocco Mini, if you know what you're doing.
So here's a list of the simplest, cheapest upgrades that give you the most bang for your buck:
1) Water
Copenhagen water is rough, too much calcium, not enough magnesium. Better mineral balance means cleaner, clearer-tasting coffee.
Filter Jar — 260 kr.
2) Weight
Whether you're pulling espresso, brewing filter, or pressing a french press, controlling your ratios is everything. A scale with a timer keeps both your ratio and extraction time in check.
Scale without timer — 300 kr.
Scale with timer — 600 kr.
3) Grind size
If you're grinding your own beans and not buying pre-ground from Netto, you're already ahead. The next step is controlling how you grind. Uniform particle size means consistent extraction, which means you're in control of how strong or light your cup tastes.
Manual Flat Burr Grinder — 1.200 kr.
4) Temperature
Most kettles cut off at 98°C, then immediately start cooling. If you're following a V60 recipe with 50g pours every 30 seconds, your last pour might already be down to 88°C, and that matters.
Keep the kettle on between pours — Free
Coffee Thermometer — 99 kr.
Temperature Control Kettle — 1.500 kr.
We don't sell any of the products listed above. Except the one we told you to skip, the La Marzocco Mini. If you are interested in one, hit us up.
